🍵✨ Mino ware (美濃焼) is proudly part of Japan’s "Ceramic Big 3", along with Arita ware (有田焼) and Kutani ware (九谷焼). Each of these ceramics got its name from a place of its origin.
✨📜 The first clues of Mino ware popped up in Mino region, nestled in what’s now southern Gifu prefecture. A well-preserved ceramic piece with a "美濃" (Mino) stamp in the photo below dates way back to the Nara era (circa 710AD–794AD).
🌏✨ Over thousands of years, inspiration from Chinese and Korean ceramics, the rise of tea ceremonies and the popularisation of the ceramics elevated Mino ware as one of the most popular ceramics in Japan. Today, it's said that about 60% of ceramics produced in Japan are Mino ware.
😉✨ Don’t worry—our latest gift drop won’t look like artifacts from the Nara era. Instead, we've chosen a colourful and fun take on Mino ware.
